SHORTLISTING for the 11th annual Stratford District Council Sports Awards has been completed and the winners will be announced at the celebration evening next month.
The ‘Celebration of Sport’, hosted by the Stratford Manor Hotel and sponsored by NFU Mutual, SLM Ltd and Ryebrook Stratford Mini, will take place on Friday 25th January 2013.
It will recognise not only the sporting triumphs of 2012 but also the hard work and commitment from volunteers, coaches and supporters in clubs and schools across the district.
The evening will consist of a three-course dinner, entertainment and of course the all-important awards, bringing past and present local Olympians and Paralympians together with local sports stars of the future and those who work tirelessly behind the scenes.
The finalists are as follows:
Junior Sports Person: Annabelle Pask – Coventry Godiva Harriers and Princethorpe College (athletics); Elliot Garside – Henley School (kickboxing and golf); Molly Rouse – Stratford School (football); Rory Dwyer – Stratford Athletic Club (athletics); Farrell Treacy – Mohawks Ice-Skating Club (speed skating); Isobel Roberts – Leamington Spa Archery Club (archery).
Senior Sports Person: Tom Clifford – Stratford Special Football (football); Andrew Pozzi – Stratford Athletic Club (athletics).
Junior Team: Stratford Grammar School for Girls U13 tennis team; Stratford School Girls football team; Stratford Athletic Club junior team.
Senior Team: Wellesbourne Ladies rugby team; Stratford Athletic Club triathlon team; Stratford Boat Club men’s team; Stratford Special football team.
Alternative Sport Individual or Team of the Year: Nicole Brain (canoe polo); Danielle Brain (canoe polo); Jump Rope UK (skipping).
Coach of the Year: Paul Bearman – Stratford Athletic Club; Matt Hyatt – Stratford Hockey Club; Linda Casement – Stratford Grammar School for Girls tennis coach.
Volunteer of the Year: Anne Tubb – Stratford Hockey Club; Stratford Grammar School for Girls young leaders; Thomas Heenan – Stratford Cycling Club.
Service to Sport Award: John Archer – Stratford Tae-kwondo Club; Rod Poulter – Action Unlimited; Dave Petty – Stratford Squash Club; Geoff Harrop – Stratford Snooker Club; Mat Pickering – Stratford Boxing Club.
NFU Mutual Community Sport Award: Martyn Brookhouse – Stratford Special Football and Maverick Sports; Stratford Cycling Club.
