LEADING local young men’s organisation Alcester and Stratford District Round Table has made donations totalling £3,000 to charities and community organisations in and around Alcester and Bidford.
The cash was raised through the Round Table’s Christmas collections which saw Santa tour the two towns in his sleigh over ten evenings in December.
Ten organisations each received £300 at the ‘charity handover’ event at the Holly Bush pub in Alcester.
The recipients were Alcester First Responders, Alcester Town FC, Alcester Scouts, Alcester Guides, Coughton PTA, Temple Grafton PTA, Friends of Haselor School, Teddy Bear Corner, Alcester Nursery and Bidford Juniors FC.
Round Table chairman David Plumb, said: “This Christmas was one of our best ever for fundraising, with Santa coming to Bidford for the first time, and growth in membership enabling us to collect on ten evenings, compared with eight in previous years.
"This is reflected in the sum raised and we were delighted to be able to present cheques to all of the organisations who supported us in the Christmas collections.
“In 2013 we changed our name to Alcester and Stratford District Round Table to recognise that our membership is drawn from Alcester, Bidford, Studley, Henley and Stratford.
"For Christmas this year we would love to take Santa to Stratford but to do that we will need some more members. Any men under 45 living in and around Stratford can find out more about what we do via Facebook.”
Part of the international Round Table organisation, Alcester and Stratford District Round Table gives men aged 18 to 45 the chance to socialise, enjoy a range of activities and contribute to their local communities.
Recent events have included a gin-tasting evening and also sporting events involving other Round Tables in the Midlands.
