A WARWICKSHIRE doctor has died suddenly after police launched an investigation into alleged fraud at the medical centre where she worked.
Dr Shazeela Allim was found dead at her home in Norton Lindsey on Wednesday.
Paramedics were called to her house at 2pm to reports of a “medical emergency” but the 53-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene.
Earlier this week it emerged that police had launched an investigation into fraud at Budbrooke Medical Centre in Hampton Magna, where Dr Allim worked with her 55-year-old husband, Dr Henry White.
Police are currently treating her death as “unexplained” and a post-mortem is being conducted to establish the cause of death.
One person has been questioned and released on police bail in an ongoing inquiry into fraud at the practice.
A spokesperson for NHS England said: “There is an ongoing investigation into Budbrooke Medical Centre in Warwickshire.
“The practice will remain open and patients should attend appointments they have made unless they are contacted by the practice.
“NHS England is the commissioner of that service and looks forward to working with the practice to ensure that patients continue to receive the primary medical services they require. Patients should contact the practice for appointments as usual."
NHS England’s Associate Medical Director, Dr Francis Campbell reassured patients that while there will be a full investigation into all activities carried out at the practice, there is no suggestion that patients have received anything but a high standard of clinical care.
A spokesman for Budbrooke Medical Centre in Slade Hill said: “It is with great sadness that we have been made aware that Dr Allim passed away."
