A WOMAN has admitted to falsely accusing a man of sexually assaulting her in Bidford-on-Avon,
During a thorough and extensive police investigation into an alleged sexual assault in Bidford village centre on Tuesday 13th August, officers found that the allegation was false.
The investigating officer, Detective Sergeant Tim Sharp, said: “The female concerned has withdrawn the allegation admitting it was false and police are confident that the incident did not occur.
"As a result she has been dealt with formally for wasting police time."
“We also interviewed a male in connection with the incident and are pleased to say that he has now been totally exonerated," added DS Sharp.
“One of our priorities in the investigation of all sexual offences is to protect the identity of both the alleged victim and the alleged perpetrator until we can establish exactly what has happened.
“We are asking the public to continue to respect the privacy of both parties now the investigation is concluded.”
In response to the incident, a spokesperson for the police said: “Warwickshire Police will conduct a thorough and detailed investigation into all alleged sexual offences.
“We encourage the reporting of such offences and offer an expert multi-agency approach in support of the victim and their needs.
“These dedicated and detailed investigations are likely to identify those who may be making a false allegation as has happened on this occasion.
“We hope the police commitment to the investigation has reassured the people of Bidford and we are grateful for their continued support.”
