FORMER Mayor of Stratford-upon-Avon Cyril Bennis has completed his final hurdle before flying into space.
The mayor of 1997-98 has just returned from the USA where he completed his space flight training at the National Aerospace Training and Research (Nastar) Center.
For many years he has wanted to fly into space and has taken positive steps to live his dream.
Now he has received his sub-orbital wings, Cyril hopes to fly into sub-orbital space next year.
He said that completing his space flight training was his “most extreme and most exhilarating” experience ever.
The Nastar Center is the only non-government facility for the application of acceleration and G force exposure in the world.
It specialises in replicating high-performance flight environments and characteristics of aerial vehicles.
The space training programs are Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) approved to prepare individuals for the rigours of space.
