Stratford man arrested over £113,000 stolen from police headquarters

A STRATFORD man has been arrested today in connection with the theft of £113,000 from Warwickshire police headquarters in Leek Wootton.

The 54-year-old was arrested this morning at his home in the Stratford-on-Avon district on suspicion of theft, and has been taken into custody for questioning.

The money was reported missing on September 30th, 2011.

Since then a confidential investigation has been taking place, carried out by the Anti Corruption Unit of Warwickshire Police’s Professional Standards Department.

The £113,000 had been seized in a police operation that resulted in the conviction of three people at Warwick Crown Court in January 2010 for a variety of offences, including possession of firearms and conspiracy to pervert the course of justice.

It was stolen from a secure storage area at Warwickshire Police's former headquarters in Leek Wootton.
