STRATFORD-upon-Avon residents can watch celebrity chefs, The Fabulous Baker Brothers, cooking up a signature dish for the town on television this Tuesday.
Tom and Henry Herbert, along with 50 or so local people, filmed an episode of their new show at the Deli Café in Meer Street last September.
The series gives six iconic locations around the country a signature dish, and at 9pm on Tuesday 12th March, the Stratford episode is being aired on More4.
Cornwall has its pasty and Bakewell has its tart, they argue, but the brothers think there is a gap in the market in Stratford.
After walking around the town and getting a feel for Tudor methods of cooking, the celebrity chefs serve up three specially-designed dishes to the public and get them to vote.
Will it be the Stratford Melter Belter, a beef brisket sandwich; Shakespeare’s Codpiece, slow-roasted pulled pork wrapped in pastry; or Juliet’s Fool, a decadent raspberry and chocolate pudding?
The brothers - who headlined last year’s Stratford Food Festival - are letting Jean Haslam at the Deli Café serve up the winning concoction, and they hope other restaurants in the town will follow her lead.
