Officers hope someone will recognise the painting, taken alongside a round brass clock mounted in a dark wooden stand, a small Georgian chest of draws with brass handles, and a collection of medals and coins in a small carved wooden box.

Also stolen were two distinctive walking sticks, one with a silver top and the other with alternating bands of bone and ivory.
