If other customers are not waiting to use the PC after this hour has finished, they can continue to use them.  Previously, the first half hour was free but charges were brought in after that time had elapsed.

The council will continue to charge non-library members or tourists.  However, the offer will be extended from £2.50 per 30 minutes to £2.50 per 60 minutes.

Cllr Colin Hayfield, portfolio holder for Customers, Access and Physical Assets, said:  “We have listened to what our customers have been saying and have taken notice of jobseekers who said that they didn’t have time to complete their CVs and young people who wanted more time to finish their homework. 

"We were resolved to respond positively to the feedback and do what we could to help them.

“We are mindful that not everyone has access to a computer at home.  Free use of computers at our libraries will do a great deal to create opportunities for some of the county’s most disadvantaged people.

“We are moving on this very quickly and I am confident that customers will be able to access free computers at all the county council’s libraries from Monday.”
