West Midlands Ambulance Service Area Manager, Martyn Scott, said: “Crews arrived to find three cars and a lorry that had been in a significant collision.

“The man driving one car, believed to be in his 60s, suffered crush injuries to his lower legs, and also head, face and pelvic injuries.  He was being cared for by an off duty paramedic who had stopped to help.

“The man was trapped in his vehicle for around one hour and he was treated at the scene whilst his safe removal from the car was carried out."

He was stabilised and airlifted by the Midlands Air Ambulance to University Hospital in Coventry where a trauma team were on standby.

The crash involved a lorry, a Dodge Journey, a blue Jaguar XF and a red Ford Fiesta. Two air ambulances and two land ambulances attended the scene.

Mr Scott continued: “The driver of a car that was found on its side in a ditch, a man in his 40s, was already out of the vehicle and received treatment for serious chest injuries.  He was transferred by land ambulance to the same hospital for further treatment.

“Three other people who were travelling in the third car, two men and a woman, received treatment at the scene for minor injuries but did not require hospital treatment. The lorry driver was uninjured in the crash."

The A429 and Darlingscote Road remain partially closed due to this incident.
