A marked police van hit a young woman outside Chicago Rock nightclub on Greenhill Street at 1am on Tuesday 1st January. The woman was taken to Warwick Hospital to receive treatment for bruising.

A police spokesperson said: “A female pedestrian sustained bruising to her leg when she stumbled in front of a marked police van when it was drawing to a stop in Greenhill Street, Stratford, shortly after 1am.

"Officers from the police van, which was on routine town centre patrol at the time, rendered first aid assistance to the woman helped by an off-duty nurse, prior to the woman being taken to Warwick Hospital. The woman gave a voluntary breath test at hospital which indicated she had been drinking heavily.”

Anyone who witnessed it is asked to contact Inspector Darren Webster on 01926 415000.

Coincidentally, another woman was clipped by a police car answering a 999 call just yards away, outside The Old Thatch Tavern, at around the same time.

The woman, who appeared to be middle-aged, was crossing Greenhill Street at the traffic lights when she was struck by the car as it turned the corner from Rother Street on blue flashing lights.

It screeched to a halt, slightly bumping the woman, who appeared to walk away from the collision uninjured, but in shock.

The police did not get out of the car and, as it set off down Greenhill Street towards the emergency, members of the public who had seen the near miss made sure the woman was okay.

A police spokesperson said: "No complaints have been received relating to a collision involving a member of the public and a police vehicle responding to an emergency call. However as a result of this incident being brought to our attention, enquiries are being made to establish the actual circumstances of what took place and decide whether any further action will be required."
