Elderly woman's glasses and handbag snatched in broad daylight

A PARTIALLY-sighted woman in her 70s was left distressed when her glasses and handbag were snatched in broad daylight on Bridge Street, Stratford-upon-Avon on Wednesday.

The woman’s handbag containing a purse with £60 in, as well as glasses crucial to her sight, was taken from her shopping trolley as she walked from Lloyds TSB to the Edinburgh Woollen Mill shop at around 11am.

A police spokesperson said the theft of her spectacles caused particular difficulties to the elderly woman.

Police in Stratford are now warning shoppers to take extra care with their purses and wallets.

They are reminding shoppers to make sure they place handbags and purses in a secure place, fastened tightly and placed down inside any shopping trolleys.

Anyone with information should contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
