Body found in burning car in Aston Cantlow

A body discovered in a burnt out Peugeot 306 in an Aston Cantlow field, near Alcester, at 7:30am today (Wednesday) is being treated as unexplained by Warwickshire Police.

Residents in the area saw two police helicopters flying overhead, and a white forensic tent was erected next to the scene.

Police were called to the scene, a field approximately 150 yards up a dirt track from the Bearley Road, by Warwickshire Fire and Rescue officers who were attending the car fire.

The Peugeot 306 has been completely destroyed, but is believed to be either red or dark burgundy in colour. It is unknown yet whether the body is male or female.

A police spokesperson said: "Investigations into how the car came to be on fire in the field are at an early stage, and police would like to hear from anyone who has any information about the car and how it came to be where it is.

"At this time it has not been possible to determine any details about the body inside the vehicle, and the death is being treated as unexplained."

Anyone with any information which may assist police in their investigation are asked to contact Warwickshire Police Control Room on 01926 415000 or the non-emergency number 101.
