STRATFORD Town manager Carl Adams has completed the signing of Rugby Town defender Mason Rowley.
The 21-year-old centre-back trained with his new team-mates yesterday (Saturday) after Stratford’s scheduled home game against Tiverton Town was postponed because of a waterlogged pitch.
It was Town’s seventh game to be called off since New Year’s Day, which followed an 8.30am pitch inspection on Saturday morning at the DCS Stadium.
Adams took advantage of the club’s 3G pitch training facility to give his team a run-out ahead of Tuesday night’s home game against Thatcham Town (7.45pm).
He said: “It’s disappointing to see another game postponed but on the positive side it will be tougher for Tiverton to come to us on a Tuesday night than a Saturday. They are one of the better teams in this league.”
When asked about his new signing Adams said: “We’ve already got two top centre-halves in Callum Burgess and Loyiso Recci. But the Tuesday night games are now starting to stack up and Loyiso in particular may have some work commitments so we need strength in depth.
“Mason is a top player and will be a very good signing for us. When he became available I had no hesitation in signing him.”
Just three games went ahead in the Calor Southern League Division One South & West on Saturday.
League-leaders Merthyr Town sent out a message of intent with a staggering 12-0 win at home to struggling Guildford City. Merthyr have a 3G pitch at Penydarren Park.
Elsewhere, two goals from former Port Vale striker Lewis Haldane gave Yate Town a 2-0 home win over Shortwood United. They move up to fourth place, ahead of Paulton Rovers, who suffered a shock 2-1 defeat at home to bottom-of-the-table Fleet Town.
