A HIGH street convenience store in Alcester has been named the most popular Asian community shop in the UK.
Nasta Khera’s shop, Simply Fresh, was presented with the Spirit of the Community award at the Asian Traders Awards, held in London last week.
The award recognises the relationship between the shop and the townspeople and all the fundraising efforts Mr Khera and his staff undertake for local organisations.
This year alone Simply Fresh raised £350 for Alcester in Bloom, they have sponsored the Alcester Town FC U16s team, as well as raising money for the court leet.
They are currently giving away free samosas outside their shop on High Street every evening, with all donations going toward the Alcester Bunting and Lighting group.
Mr Khera said: “We do these sort of things quite regularly, I am very proud of my shop and my town.”
Mr Khera, aged 42, and his wife Aman, 30, have lived in Alcester for seven years, and their shop with traditional wooden beams coupled with
sparkling clean floors has proved a hit with locals.
Town councillor Mike Gittus, said: “Shops like this ensure a future for the high street, with their friendly personal service.”
