Abu Qatada released from Long Lartin prison

Abu Qatada, the notorious terror suspect, was released from Long Lartin prison today, just four miles down the road from Bidford-on-Avon.

The bearded cleric from Jordan will now be allowed out of his house for eight hours a day - although police will be watching him round the clock - after a court ruled he can not be deported to his home country.

The government are desparate to deport Qatada, allegedly affiliated with Al-Qaeda, but are currently unable to do so.

He was driven out of the maximum security prison in the back-seat of a black Volkswagen people carrier.
