Police were liaising with the family of the person they believe is the victim and that they do not believe anyone else was with the vehicle at the time the car set on fire.

A post mortem examination conducted yesterday failed to establish the cause of death and further analysis is taking place.

Detective Inspector Liam Barry, from the investigation team, said today: “We still need to establish what time the Peugeot 306 drove on to the field beside Brearley Road on Wednesday morning.

“We are beginning to build up a picture of the movements of the person who we believe died in the car, but there are still some unknowns leading up to when the car was reported to be on fire in the field.

“We are still appealing for anyone who saw the red Peugeot 306 in Aston Cantlow early on Wednesday 25th January, or anyone who heard anything that could have been the car being driven on to the field.”

Officers were alerted to the man’s death by the Warwickshire Fire and Rescue Service who were called to attend the car fire at shortly after 7am on Wednesday.

They contacted police when they realised there was a body inside the vehicle.
