EXCITED crowds helped welcome the season of goodwill to Stratford-upon-Avon with the official switch-on of the Christmas lights outside the Town Hall with a special guest appearance by Santa Clause after loads of festive songs performed by local school children.

Toddlers, mums and dads joined in the big countdown from ten to one before the lights illuminated the night sky which included lanterns and reindeer on the junction High Street and Sheep Street.

As well as the colourful yuletide picture painted throughout the town centre thanks to Thursday’s switch-on, festive favourites like Jungle Bells and We Wish You a Merry Christmas were sung with great enthusiasm by all those who were captured by the yuletide spirit in the crowd.
