THE Royal Shakespeare Company (RSC) and David Walliams have announced two more well-known names will be working with them on a stage musical version of The Boy in the Dress next year.

The Herald exclusively revealed back in February details of the show.

But both the RSC and Walliams have now confirmed that Robbie Williams and songwriter Guy Chambers have written the music, and that it will be directed by RSC artistic director, Gregory Doran.

The Boy in the Dress was Walliams’ first book and was published in 2008 and the RSC are understood to be hoping it will emulate the massive success of Matilta! The Musical.

The RSC said: “We are excited to be collaborating with David Walliams, Mark Ravenhill, Guy Chambers and Robbie Williams on a new adaptation of The Boy in the Dress. It’s early days and we look forward to making an announcement early next year (2019) when tickets will be available.”

Walliams said: “I am over the moon that my book is being adapted into a stage musical with a book by Mark Ravenhill and songs by Guy Chambers and Robbie Williams. It is being produced next year by the RSC and will be directed by Greg Doran.”
