Protests stepped up against multi-academy trust

Opponents of a plan by four local schools to form a new multi-academy trust (MAT) ramped up their protests last week, leafleting parents outside the school gates.

The leaflets, distributed by parents, local Labour party members and union representatives, were given to parents picking up their children from Bridgetown Primary School and Thomas Jolyffe Primary.

One leaflet presented the highly critical view of the National Education Union on academies, while another outlined specific concerns about the plan involving the Stratford schools.

Create your own trust or be snapped up by another one. Those are the options.

It’s such a shame that it has come to this. Schools are left with little choice as Central Government decimate Local Authorities and systematically remove any support structures that were once available. It will of course eventually go full circle when the Academy system breaks down completely.
