He bought a double plot for him and his wife of 35 years at Snitterfield Cemetery for £500 and then paid £1,300 for a black granite headstone. Earlier this month, he installed some grey granite edging around the grave with his 34-year-old son, Barrie.

Even though there are plenty of other graves in the cemetery with the same edging, he was told by Snitterfield Parish Council this week to remove the stones to allow for “maintenance and mowing” because of stricter regulations brought in during 2005.
