New headmaster announced for Warwick School

WARWICK School has announced who its new headmaster will be.

Dr Deneal Smith is currently Under Master (Senior Deputy Head) at Westminster School.

He will take over from Gus Lock in September next year.

Mr Lock himself will be moving to The Haberdashers’ Aske’s Boys’ School in Elstree, London – where he was a pupil – after five years at Warwick.

Dr Deneal grew up in Blackpool and graduated from St John’s College, Cambridge, emerging with a first class degree in mathematics and astrophysics, and a PhD in Observational Astronomy.

He began his teaching career at Winchester College before becoming head of sixth form and then director of studies at Magdalen College School, Oxford.

The school said in a statement: “Throughout the selection process, he performed superbly and demonstrated a very strong pastoral instinct, excellent leadership and strategic thinking, a love of teaching and learning and warm emotional intelligence.”

Mr Lock returns to his old school to replace the retiring Peter Hamilton.
