Stratford was awash with smiling faces today as the mop fair was officially opened by the Mayor.
The traditional mop, which dates back centuries, sees the town centre packed with spectacular rides and attractions.
As is tradition, the town’s mayor Cllr Victoria Alcock, opened the fair after receiving a donation to her chosen charity, Heart of England Mencap, from William Wilson, whose family company runs the mop.
Cllr Alcock was then led down Bridge Street behind a group of Morris dancers, before cutting the first slice from the pig roast down at waterside.
The meat was auctioned off to a number of bidders, raising £795 for the Stratford District Scouts Association.
The mayor then led councillors and fair organisers around the mop, trying out a variety of the rides on offer.
