West Midlands Ambulance Service were called to the incident just after 9.30am, and then requested the help of firefighters to cut the man free from the wreckage.

Suffering from hip and arm injuries, he was removed from the vehicle around 10.30am.

He was given pain relief and immobilised before being flown to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham by the Midlands Air Ambulance from Strensham. The helicopter took off around 11am.

When asked if the man’s injuries were serious, an ambulance service spokesperson said: “Because of his age any sort of injuries could be serious.”
