Having already beaten Bidford 5-0 and Harvington 4-0, Alveston found hosts Henley a far tougher test in last week’s semi-final before progressing 2-0.

Connor Smith hit the first with a beautiful curled right-footed shot and though Henley perhaps had the better of the exchanges it was Malcolm Eustace’s visitors who grabbed the next goal. Greg Castle, who had scored in both the Bidford and Harvington wins, was hauled down by the Henley keeper and the hard-working Mitch Colby slotted home the penalty.

Alveston will be marking their 90th anniversary with a golf day and dinner on Sunday, 28th September at Stratford Oaks Golf Club.

Any past players, supporters and officials are invited to both events. For more details, contact club president Martin Beese on 07774 423 641.

The Stratford Alliance season kicks off on Saturday. For the full fixtures, see page 15 of today’s Herald.
