According to the ambulance service the cyclist suffered a minor elbow injury, was slightly shaken, and did not want to go to hospital.

The car, which the ambulance service calls a “rapid response vehicle”, is designed to get to incidents quickly.

It did not have its blue flashing lights on and was reportedly “edging slowly” in line with traffic on the road.

Eyewitnesses say the cyclist was attempting to undertake the car.

The police were also in attendance.
