After a tense debate councillors decide to reject the proposals on the grounds that any perceived benefits of the scheme would be outweighed by the effect of the proposals on the conservation area.

Following the decision Ray Perry, co-chairman of Dorsington Residents' Association, told the Herald: “We're over the moon. At the end of the day the enough councillors recognised the right of local people to have a say about the way things should be. They were the ones that saved us last night.”
