Dozens of boats clad in bunting will be parked on the Avon, and there will be a range of food and market stalls on the recreation ground as well as live music on the bandstand.

Also making a return this year is Saturday’s 10.30pm fireworks display, which follows the illuminated boat parade at 10pm.

The Met Office are predicting heavy rain on Saturday morning before it clears in the afternoon and evening. On Sunday heavy showers are expected throughout the day.

However, organiser Ruth Wood said: “We have got numerous plans in place for bad weather, including marquee cover that was used to protect people from the sun last year. We are expecting some showers but not heavy rain and are hoping to get similar numbers this year.”

This year’s event coincides with the 50th anniversary of the Queen Mother reopening Stratford Canal.

Run by Stratforward Buisness Improvement District, the festival kicks off at 12noon on both Saturday and Sunday.
