Deputy Mayor of Shipston Philip Vial tweeted: “Really pleased that Shipston has its retained firefighters.”

Where firefighters are retained in Warwickshire has been a contentious issue in recent weeks.

In March, Warwickshire Fire and Rescue Service announced cuts of £2.4 million which include proposals to remove 24-hour coverage in Alcester, leaving the station manned from 10am-10pm.

Since then, a few high-profile fires have occurred in the town outside these hours.

On Saturday 17th May, the fire service are holding a roadshow in Alcester where the public can ask fire chiefs about the future of the town’s coverage.

It’s taking place between 10am and 2pm at the Bull’s Head Yard Car Park.
