Oxfam shop manager Hannah Davis said: “I’m absolutely delighted at the amount the collection has raised for Oxfam. One of our shop volunteers spotted the donation and after some careful research we were very excited to discover its true worth. We are very grateful to the people who donated the etchings because the money will go towards our life-saving work.”

Shop volunteer, Sonya Millman, who carried out the research on the etchings in Stratford, was present at Tuesday’s auction and said she and her colleagues normally get excited when one of their book donations sells for £150 but £4,200 was, “absolutely staggering.”

The collection was one of several rare and valuable books donated to Oxfam nationally throughout the year which went under the hammer at Bonhams and raised a total of over £16,000 for the charity.
