Held at 10.40pm after that evening’s performance of Henry IV, Part I, the late start did not deter people from the fireworks, which were set to background music from among others, the Arctic Monkeys.

A huge flaming bust of Shakespeare was ignited, and at the end of the display, golden sparks rained down from the theatre.

Although yesterday was the official anniversary of the Bard’s birth, the majority of the celebrations in Stratford are taking place on Saturday.
