Statistics show that 26.3 per cent of exam entries were given an A or A* grades, compared to last year’s figure of 26.6 per cent.

Universities in England can now admit as many top performing students as they want.

Last year universities could take on extra students who had at least AAB or equivalent, but this year it has been increased to include students who have achieved ABB or more.
