Mr Coward, who was a student at Liverpool John Moores University, hanged himself from a tree after running away from his friends at Stratford train station on Sunday.

According to them, he was showing signs of paranoia as they prepared to catch the train home to Liverpool.

His mother Lin, who attended the inquest with Jon’s father Gary, wants her son’s death to serve as a warning to others.

“This is a terrible tragedy,” she said. “We want everyone young and old to understand the potentially devastating consequences of taking mind-altering drugs.”

Mr McGovern recorded an open verdict for Mr Coward’s death.
